The Sicilian castle on the rock
Aci Castello is a castle on a rocky cliff, surrounded by a beautiful landscape of sea, a few kilometers from the city of Catania in Sicily.
Its origin comes from an ancient Greek city, mysterious disappearance, Xiphonia, legend tells a love story between a nymph named Galatea and a pastor called Aci Polyphemus in love with it too Galatea.
Aci Castello is part of the Riviera of the Cyclops of which are also part Aci Trezza. The country in the past was totally destroyed by the terrible earthquake of 1169, it was rebuilt but was later destroyed again by another devastating earthquake in 1693 and rebuilt again in 1718.
Today the country is a tourist destination in the beautiful Ionian coast of Sicily in Catania, its beach is entirely of lava rock and surrounds the castle above. The country can be visited any time of year.
